General Music
General music classes are offered for every grade level, on a 9 week rotation. The class goal is for students learn the basic fundamentals of music in order to gain an appreciation of music. Students achieve this goal by completing lessons and assignments that include many learning styles, allowing students with any amount of musical experience to succeed in the classroom.

General music encompasses a variety of music subjects, such as reading music, composing music, playing instruments, genres of music, music history, and jobs in the music industry. Students will play several instruments, with piano being the primary focus. Students participate in several individual or group projects, including creating their own band, writing a song parody, and making their own instrument out of household items.]

Chorus
Chorus students work on the Virginia State Standards for vocal technique, theory, choreography, sight reading  and performance at  high level instruction. The class instruction also focuses on different genres of  music.

6th grade students are at the beginning level; they learn to sing in 2 part harmony, and have 2 required evening concerts per year.

7th grade classes are separated into boys and girls.  It is beneficial to help with changing voice and breathing techniques.  They sing in 3 part harmony. They also have 2 required evening concerts a year.  Select students may audition for Virginia All-State Chorus.

8th grade classes are Advanced Classes: Women’s Choir, all girls; Men’s Choir, all boys; and Show Choir, which is an audition only class.  There are many concerts and performances throughout the year.  There is also required concert attire that must be purchased. There are audition opportunities for All-County, All-District, and Virginia All-State Chorus.

Orchestra
Orchestra classes are offered for 6th grade beginners, 6th grade advanced (students with 1 year of experience), and advanced 7th and 8th grade students. In orchestra, students learn the basics of playing an instrument, ensemble skills, and note-reading. Students also explore music theory concepts, composing/conducting, and music aesthetics and history. Orchestra classes have several required concerts per year to showcase our learning in a performance!

Ukulele class is offered to 7th grade students. This class is primarily for beginning musicians, and starts with the basics of playing and musicianship. This class has 2 required concerts per year. 

Guitar class is offered to 8th grade students. This class is primarily for beginning musicians, and starts with the basics of playing and musicianship. This class has 2 required concerts per year.
